“In the end, our competitors need to react to what we’re doing in the marketplace and need to figure out what their innovation will be,” Fils-Aime said. “It’s likely that faster processors and pretty pictures won’t be enough to motivate consumers. They need to react to what we’ve done and we need to continue innovating with the Wii U and we will.”

He said the Wii U will only grow as a “living, breathing product” as its competitors reveal what will likely be more technically advanced products, according to alleged leaks for the next Xbox and PlayStation 4.

“For us, launching new systems is about bringing new consumer experiences to the marketplace and we’re doing that with Nintendo Land and third-party publishers are doing it with games like ZombiU. For us, now is the right time to launch new hardware.”

Grand Theft Auto


The Grand Theft Auto series has shipped 125 million copies in its 15-year history, with Grand Theft Auto IV alone responsible for 25 million of those. How does Rockstar Games sell more of each new entry than the last? Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick says it’s because every release is special.

Zelnick spoke at the Credit Suisse 2012 Technology Conference in Scottsdale, Ariz., as reported by GameSpot. While there he praised Activision’s ability to maintain high quality in its annualized Call of Duty franchise, but pointed to his said he understands that comparatively weaker sales for Black Ops II than last year’s Modern Warfare 3 may be an indication of consumer exhaustion.

“It’s our view that if you want intellectual properties to be permanent, then you run the risk in that circumstance of having consumers fall out of love with that franchise,” Zelnick said. “[Activision] obviously views the world differently.”

Instead, he compared Grand Theft Auto to the James Bond series of films, which recently had its 50th anniversary and a box office success with Skyfall. Consumers don’t expect a new GTA or Bond film every two years, so they feel they have more to look forward to when one does come along.

“Ours do better each time. Our view is it’s hard to make permanent intellectual properties if you annualize it, with the exception of sports titles. So far that’s proven to be the case. IP that is annualized eventually seems to hit the wall and we don’t want our IP to hit the wall.”

Syberia 3 confirmed by Microids


Syberia is cold. So cold, in fact, it causes the first “i” in any word to freeze into a “y” shape. And only when it’s used in the word “Syberia.” Yes, it’s a very concentrated form of cold. French developer Microids’ beloved point-and-click adventure series will get a third revisit to the mythical land of mammoths and machines sometime between 2014 and 2015, according to an announcement post on Facebook.

Original Syberia designer and director Benoit Sokal is returning to helm the project. Publisher Anuman Interactive is shooting for a “multiplatform” release after Sokal finalizes the script next year.

Both Syberia games charted the half-surreal journeys of American lawyer Kate Walker in a puzzle-heavy tundra reminiscent of Russia’s Siberian region. The colorful mixture of art nouveau and steampunk earned accolades as one of the strongest examples of the adventure genre’s staying power throughout the early 2000′s.

Dishonored’s Dunwall City Trials out December 11


Dishonored’s first add-on DLC pack will arrive on December 11 with ten new challenge maps for players to test their stealthy magic. Dunwall City Trials will cost $5 and be available on PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 simultaneously.

The trials will include wave-based battles, drop-assassination chains, time trials, and other mystical murder mayhem complete with achievements and leaderboards. Bethesda previously announced three pieces of DLC for the critically lauded first-person game, with the next two launching in 2013 featuring story-driven campaigns.

The next will launch in early spring and cast a spotlight on Daud, leader of assassin group “the Whalers.” Bethesda says we’ll know more about the third pack closer to its release.

Call of Duty: Black Ops zombie co-op campaign teased by trailer


Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is getting an expanded co-op mode called “Tranzit” that’ll send four survivors on a zombie road trip across the US. As one of those survivors you’ll get to bus from place to place, mounting heroic stands against the zombie army at each location. IGN mention “buildables” that con be constructed to furnish you with new weapons, or open up extra areas, which are probably full of more zombies.

The latest Black Ops 2 zombies trailer shows a fuel stop, a diner, a farmhouse reminiscent of Left 4 Dead’s Blood Harvest finale, a power station and a town center blighted by lava pools. Zombies AND lava? It’s the doompocalypse alright. You’ll find the video stamped into the page below.

Parts of the video show a tiny snippet of someone shooting zombies of the roof of the bus in first person, suggesting that we’ll have to defend against legions of zombie marathon runners as the bust travels between locations.

As well as “Tranzit” there will be a versus mode that will put two four-player teams into the zombie apocalypse and encourage them to compete for zombie kills without killing each other. There will be a more traditional survival zombie mode for fans of Treyarch’s previous efforts.

Treyarch could probably spin zombies into a separate release if they wanted to. It’s been a fan favourite since its cheeky first appearance in World at War. Is the zombie mode your favourite part of Treyarch’s CoD games, or just a fun distraction?

The Secret World Cat God update adds new missions, halloween event approaching


The third update for The Secret World is now live, adding two new missions and laying the groundwork for a series of Halloween events starting at the end of October. These will introduce a new villain called the Cat God, a walking cat in a nice hat with a mission to install scratching posts on every corner and run out every catnip dealer in town. If only that was his plan, but this is the Secret World. His intentions will be a lot more nefarious. Funcom say that “tricks, treats, cool new costumes and special pets” await for those brave enough to complete the event.

The new missions are playable right now. “The Binding” takes place in Egypt and promises to challenge “even the most hardened puzzle solvers.” The Carpathian Fangs hosts a new action mission called “Dogs of War” which will pit werewolves against their bitter enemies, the vampires. The update also adds a full set of Lairs missions, and there’s more in store in the coming weeks. “you should also look forward new outfits available in the in-game store and a completely new awesome pet with a jet pack on its back,” Funcom say.
